Alex Hartley, a Financial Analyst in our Informatics Department at Premier Consulting, recently had the opportunity to travel to Saint Louis, Missouri to attend Express Scripts University where he gained knowledge about the Pharmacy Benefit Management industry.
The conference began with a review of innovations as well as changes in the marketplace and how to use these to better position our clients in managing their risk. Biosimilar research and applications, client-specific formulary development and manufacturer negotiations were identified as integral parts of pharmacy cost management.
Specialty drugs and their impact on the pharmaceutical industry is a focus of Premier in mitigating the risk and costs of these medications. Rebate management and orphan drug protection for employers were also topics of discussion.
Individual case management for members starting a new, more complicated drug regimen, can be conducted via video conferencing with a specialized pharmacist. The availability of mobile health tools increases member compliance, allowing members to become more involved in their own health care decisions.
Premier’s team will use this Pharmacy Benefit Management knowledge to better serve our client and assure the most cost-effective and member-relevant solutions.
