Recent years have seen the advent of the #MeToo movement, which has spread across social media, the entertainment industry and corporate culture.
There has been a shift in the way employers and employees view sexual harassment in the workplace. In April 2018, New York State enacted legislation requiring employers with 15 or more employees to train all employees annually on the prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Among the requirements are:
- A detailed explanation of what constitutes sexual harassment at work
- Examples of conduct that constitutes sexual harassment
- Information on the assistance available to victims
- Information about employees’ rights regarding sexual harassment complaints
- Interactive training
